Raymond L. Sohl, 84, of Plainsboro died December 26 at the Pavilions at Forrestal. A lifelong Plainsboro resident, he served with the Plainsboro Post Office for 30 years and was postmaster when he retired in 1972. Survivors include three nieces, Connie Sohl-Hopkins of Plainsboro, Marlee Maxwell of Cranbury, and Susan Seip of Hightstown; and several grand nieces and nephews.##M:[more]##
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Plainsboro, the Plainsboro Historical Society, and the Plainsboro Lions Club.
Sohl was born to Harry L. and Florence Hellman Sohl at the family home. His three brothers, Clifford, Lester, and Walter, were also born at home. He attended the two-room schoolhouse in Plainsboro (now the office of Special Services for the school district) and graduated from Princeton High School.
His niece Connie remembers helping her father Clifford at the post office in the 1950s. Outgoing mail in a mailbag was put on a hook near the train tracks. “We had to move away quickly to avoid being hit by the mailbag tossed from the moving car,” she recalls. “My uncle was the second postmaster in Plainsboro.
