An entire Junior troop of sixth graders at Grover and Community middle schools earned their Bronze Award focusing on Anchor House, a refuge for runaway and homeless youth ages 10 to 17. Since it opened in 1978 more than 12,”000 children and families have sought emergency care, housing, life skills education, and counseling services.##M:[more]##
Troop 1987 members created 30 welcome bags for teenagers who stay at Anchor House in Trenton. The bags contained personal toiletries and comfort items for children during their stay. Area businesses contributing to the welcome bags include Bristol Meyers-Squibb, Home Depot, Wegmans, and Sam’s Club.
Girls receiving the Bronze Award include Emma McGregor, Caitlin Perry, Irina Matos, Anne Corbett, Nicole Crossey, Cori Ryklin, Alyssa Avino, Kathryn Wembacher, Alana Bhatla, Kathleen MacKenzie, and Amy Slothower. Troop leaders are Cheryl Corbett and Kathy Slothower.
