West Windsor’s search committee is conducting interviews with 10 finalists who could become the planner for the Township’s re-development and Transit Village project. The first seven interviews took place on Thursday, August 10, and the final three will be on Thursday, August 17.
Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh, who chairs the search committee, said the township will announce the names of between three and five finalists who will be invited to make public presentations of their ideas for the 350-acre area in need of redevelopment.
“Right now, I don’t want to make the finalists known until we do all the interviews,” said Hsueh. “Some of the candidates and members of the search committee don’t want it known, because those that are interviewing next week could call their peers to find out about the interview, and we don’t want that to happen. We want to make the whole process very open, but we can’t release the names yet.”
After the final interview, scheduled to finish by 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 24, Hsueh says he will announce the candidates through the township’s website, www.westwindsornj.org. He says the public presentations will be arranged soon after, and he encourages residents to attend the presentations. “We want the whole community involved in the decision. This is the most open process,” says Hsueh.
The search committee also includes Township Engineer James Parvesse, Land Use Manager Samuel Surtees, Planning Board Chairman Marvin Gardener, Planning Board Vice Chair Steve Jany, and council members Franc Gambatese and Heidi Kleinman. Council President Linda Geevers is an alternate voting member.
Aside from the seven voting members, the committee includes three advisors: Township Attorney Michael J. Herbert, Planning consultant John Madden, and citizen advisor and former council member Kristen Appelget.
