The North-South “Civil War” may not have lived up to its billing on the field, but the tailgate leading up to the game was more heated than a charcoal grill. WW-P South, which this year hosted the event, had parties in the parking lot starting as early as 4 p.m. All area schools are angling for a “Most Spirited School” award from 94.5 FM (WPST), and the Senior Spirit Club planned on making the pre-game party a statement in the school’s favor. The radio station, which will host a concert by Hedley at the winning school, made an appearance at the tailgate due to public relations efforts by Student Council President Alexandra Zuckerman. The party was planned by Senior Spirit Club leaders Crawford Miller, Lauren Petro, and Timmy Carroll.
North supporters arrived in caravan, led by a large Silver and Blue van, With “Go Knights” painted on the windows. The train of vehicles cut through the South party, with car horns honking and blue-painted faces screaming out of car windows. They pulled into the opposite side of the lot from South’s set-up. Within minutes, the party crashers had erected a blue tent and fired their grill, letting their counterparts know that today’s competition wasn’t only being fought on the field.
