Rick Ellis, the computer teacher at Dutch Neck School who emphasizes to his students that technology is not just a toy, it is a tool, recently launched a research project triggered by the recent death of Steve Irwin, known for his wildlife documentary series, “The Crocodile Hunter.”##M:[more]##
Students, using the Google Earth program to locate Irwin’s Australia zoo, are studying various wildlife animals and their natural habitats. With the information, students are creating cards of sympathy for Irwin’s family. Overall, the students are utilizing technology for graphic design and typing skills, and well as researching skills on the Australia zoo site.
The students are also conducting a fundraiser in Irwin’s name with donations being collected for Wildlife Warrior, an organization Irwin was involved in. The cards, along with a check from donations, have been sent to the zoo in Australia.
