Bruce Schobel of West Windsor, who was named the president for the Society of Actuaries for the 2007-’08 term, will be inaugurated in October, 2007. He is a vice president and actuary with New York Insurance Company in Manhattan.

Born and in Cleveland, Ohio, Schobel received a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1974. He has worked in life insurance, employee-benefit consulting, and with the federal government. Schobel has also taught actuarial science course for Loyola College and the Actuarial Society of New York.
Schobel served as staff actuary to the National Commission on Social Security Reform (Greenspan Commission) and as senior policy advisor to the Commissioner of Social Security.
He and his wife, Jeanne, have lived in West Windsor since 1990. Their four children are Cathie, 25, who lives in California now; Mike, 22, in his first year of law school at Duke University; Dan, 20, majoring in math at Rutgers University; and Tim, 12, a seventh grade student at the Center School in Highland Park. Schobel, who has visited all 50 states, plans to visit all of the state capitals. He has 48 under his belt and is only missing Boise, Idaho, and Carson City, Nevada. He has also visited 75 countries but hopes to reach 100 before long.
