A day of music, song, children’s literature, and a celebration of locally-grown food will be presented by members of the West Windsor Arts Council on Saturday, November 18, at Barnes & Noble, MarketFair. Deborah Heiligman, the author of 19 books for children, reads at 11 a.m. Her most recent editions teach young folk about the holidays including Diwali, Ramadan, Chanukah, and Thanksgiving.
Beth Feehan, West Windsor Farmers Market co-founder, talks about sustainable agriculture and farms-to-schools programs at 12:30 p.m. She is working with the West Windsor-Plainsboro schools to bring farm-fresh produce into lunchrooms. She will also recommend her favorite books about food.
Jeff Nathanson and his band, Back Porch Swing, present acoustic music including modern and traditional jazz, gypsy swing, dawg jazz, blues, and rockabilly, at 2 p.m. Musicians include Larry Frazer on mandolin and vocals; Sharyn Alice Murray, vocals; and Nathanson on guitar. Nathanson, a West Windsor resident, is executive director of the Arts Council of Princeton.
Bob Mecklenburger presents original and well-known folk songs on his acoustic six and twelve-string guitars at 3 p.m. Comfortable with both flatpicking and finger picking styles, he is producing a soon-to-be released album. A member and past president of the Princeton Folk Music Society, he is a participant in the Philadelphia Songwriters Alliance.
