Two Nutcrackers

Dancers from West Windsor and Plainsboro are participating in different versions of the Nutcracker.##M:[more]##

This is West Windsor Plainsboro Dance Company’s sixth season with performances of “The Nutcracker” at Thomas Grover Middle School in West Windsor on Saturday and Sunday, December 2 and 3. The current, narrated version of the timeless classic tale features ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, and hip hop dancers ranging in age from three to adult. The 2006 version, “The Nutcracker Suite,” includes new choreography by Amy DeCesare, Roni Wilityer, and Victoria Chodrow.##M:[more]##

With a new name, new costumes, and updated sets, the WWPDC has also added new dance numbers to this production including Wizards in Winter, Sweet Candy Treat, and the traditional Waltz of the Flowers. Tickets, available through the Dance Corner II at 609-799-9684, are $7 in advance, and $8 at the door.

Hope Jin, a sophomore at High School North, will dance the coveted role of Clara and is joined by a cast of 125 dancers. She began her dancing studies at Dance Spectrums when she was in kindergarten and has continued to study ballet since then. She has studied at the Dance Corner since she was in sixth grade and has been in the West Windsor Dance company’s annual Nutcracker for the past four years.

At North she is in the choir and was in the ensemble of “Oklahoma” last spring. She is also a varsity cheerleader and a member of the dance team — both of which keep her busy during football and basketball seasons.

Jin was born in Philadelphia and moved to West Windsor when she was four years old. Her mother works at Dow Jones and her father works in New York City for the Bank of New York. Her sister, Rebecca, is a student at Community Middle School and active at Arena Gymnastics.

Other soloists include Marissa Wiener as the Ballerina Doll and Chinese Tea, Jennifer Rogers as the Snow Queen and Arabian, and Elizabeth Wembacher as the Tap Doll.

Dancers from Plainsboro include Katherine Antos, Emma Borden, Caroline Bromberg, Katie Bromberg, Taylor Britt, Elise Burton, Carolyn Campbell, Karen Campbell, Victoria Campbell, Isabella Capuano, Delaney Cochrane, Gina Ethe, Lilah Ethe, Jonathan Falzon, Emily Ford, and Lauren Ford.

Princeton Dance

Princeton Dance & Theater Studio presents its second season of “The Nutcracker,” staged and choreographed by Susan Jaffe, former principal dancer with American Ballet Theater. There are three casts to accommodate PDT students, who will perform at Montgomery High School. Guest artist Danny Tidwell is a former soloist with American Ballet Theater.

Laura Whitby, a senior at High School South, is performing the role of the Sugarplum Fairy on Sunday, December 10, at noon. Phoebe Sandford, a junior at South, will be Marie on Saturday, December 9, at 4 p.m. They will both dance less demanding roles in the other performance. Other dancers from West Windsor include Iris Foster, Alexander Inkiow, Adrienne Kaplowitz, Vera Shulgina, Wendy Schutxer, and Paul Cerna. Plainsboro dancers include Emelia Adu, Lynna Ye, Sophia Tian, Juliet Martone, Claire Su, and Jutta Gruener.
