The four Beatles, complete in their Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band attire, will be gracing the stage at High School South on Sunday, December 3, when the High School South Orchestra presents its eleventh annual Children’s Concert featuring music from The Beatles! ##M:[more]##
The Camerata Symphony Strings will be playing Maxwell’s Silver Hammer, Eleanor Rigby, Yellow Submarine, When I’m Sixty Four, and The Fool on the Hill. The Philharmonia Symphony Orchestra will be playing music arranged for the orchestra by director Jean Mauro and her husband, Peter; and a piece arranged by Eric Spiegel, a senior at South. They will be playing Birthday, Twist and Shout, All You Need is Love, Help, Something, Her Majesty, and The End.
John Lennon will be played by Daring Kaul, Paul McCartney will be played by Mohit Sahni, George Harrison will be played by Greg Steiner, and Ringo Starr will be played by Ben Rose. There will be a guest appearance by “Tickled Pink,” the girl’s a capella group, singing Oba De.
The first children’s concert was presented in 1996 to support the Orchestra’s first trip abroad, when they were asked to participate in the Schubert International Bicentennial celebration in Vienna. This year the Philharmonia Symphony Orchestra will be traveling to St. Petersburg and Novgorod in Russia, and the Camerata Symphony Orchestra and String Ensemble will be competing in Boston. All proceeds support the orchestra program at South.
The Symphony Orchestras perform and the String Ensemble acts as ushers, involving the younger children in the concert. Instead of listening with just their ears, they are invited to move to the music — dancing, marching, etc. For the older participants, it becomes enjoyable to see how the younger audience reacts to the music.
