Caitlin Filiato of West Windsor is only seven and a half but she’s been a member of the National Society Children of the American Revolution all of her life. Her link is Calub Rude, a Revolutionary War soldier who fought in the Battle of Morristown. Caitlin, vice president of the Morven Society of the greater Princeton area, is also a delegate to the 75th New Jersey state conference to be held on Saturday, March 19, in Somerset.
Born in Princeton, she has lived in West Windsor all of her life. The daughter of Cathy and Anthony, Caitlin’s siblings include her brother Tristan, 4 1/2, and Rebecca, 21 months. Her parents moved to West Windsor in 1996 from Hartsdale, New York.
Her mother, born in Queens and raised in Bucks County, is a graduate of Dickinson College with a degree in political science and from New York University with a graduate degree in international education. Before moving to New Jersey, she worked in fundraising at Purchase College.
“I used to love genealogy and before the children were born I had time to do research,” she says. “I found several relatives who were around during the Revolutionary War, but I was only able to prove the service records of Calub Rude.” She became a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution nine years ago. She is also a member of the League of Women Voters and one of the founding members of the Allergy and Asthma Support Group of Central New Jersey.
Catlin’s father, an attorney in New York City, is also interested in genealogy and discovered more recent immigrants from Italy, Poland, and Ireland in his background.
Caitlin, a Brownie Girl Scout in Troop 1603, plays soccer in the West Windsor Plainsboro Recreation League. For close to a year she has been a competitive figure skater and takes private lessons twice a week with Lynn Mooney at Iceland. She has also studied piano for three years with Sakiko Ono, also of West Windsor.
“Caitlin likes to learn about history and enjoys the service projects,” says her mother. “She has learned about parliamentary procedure and how meetings are run.”
Meetings and activities of the Morven Society are usually held at Trinity Church in Princeton. For information, call Elizabeth J. Peters at 609-466-7333.
