Executive Director At Arts Council
Jeff Nathanson of West Windsor is the new executive director at the Arts Council of Princeton. He replaces founding director Anne Reeves, who retired on May 1.
Nathanson, 49, is a founding member of the West Windsor Arts Council and has been the acting executive director this past year. Born in Los Angeles, he studied printing, printmaking, music theory, and guitar performance at UCLA. At UC-Santa Cruz he studied sculpture, printmaking, and painting, and music of non-western cultures.
While working in San Francisco in the late 1970s he continued to combine his passions for art and music and became interested in non-profit management while working with art galleries. From 1991 to 2000, he was executive director of the Richmond Art Center in the San Francisco Bay area.
Close to five years ago he became the director of the International Sculpture Center in Hamilton located at Grounds for Sculpture. He and his wife, Connie Tell, and their daughter moved to Berrien City.
Nathanson is known in Princeton for his consulting work on public art and outdoor sculpture projects including the Magdalena Abakanowicz sculpture and Sol Le Witt mural projects for the Princeton University Arts Museum. He served as art project director for the new Princeton Public Library.
“I’m honored and thrilled to be selected to lead such a fine organization,” he said in a press release. “The Arts Council has a strong history of service to the Princeton community that I will work to build upon. With the help of the board, staff, artists, and the community at large, we will use the expanded arts center as a springboard to even greater success.”

Leslie Burger of West Windsor was elected president of the American Library Association. She has been the director of the Princeton Public Library for five years. Burger assumes the position of president-elect this summer and takes office next year. She plans to make every one of the affiliated libraries special for the community it serves.
Last year she was recognized at the YWCA Princeton Tribute to Women program. A graduate of Southern Connecticut State College, she has a master’s degree in organizational behavior from the University of Hartford. She and her husband, Alan, have three children.
