Top Scouts
Three Girl Scouts from West Windsor-Plainsboro were honored on May 22, in ceremonies at Educational Testing Services.
Stephanie Perl of West Windsor received a Woman of Distinction Scholarship. A member of Troop 1514, she has been a Girl Scout for 13 years.
Perl graduates from High School South next month and plans to study chemical engineering at Princeton University in the fall. She would like to pursue a career in medicine. She is the daughter of Susan and Barry Perl.
Her Girl Scout Gold Award project, Harry’s Heroes, was inspired by her grandfather, Harry Perl. She was instrumental in shipping over 3,”200 items to soldiers and their families overseas. Corporate donations were received from the USO, American Red Cross, and McGuire Air Force Base. Church and Dwight’s 131-box donation was valued at $12,”000.
According to her advisor, Mary Alden, “Stephanie accomplished her outstanding achievement by far exceeding our initial expectations in terms of the number of items that were shipped overseas and the value of the corporate donations she collected.”
Karly Nesson from Troop 1110 and Adrienne Sheard from Troop 1514 earned their Gold Award. From start to finish, the project takes close to a year and only three percent of all Senior Girl Scouts complete the final requirements.
Nesson, a junior at High School South, is a Plainsboro resident. Her project “The Best Cookie Booth Design and Sale,” taught 35 leaders the correct way to run a cookie booth sale. She also created a portable cookie booth available to volunteers year round.
She is the daughter of Scott and Nancy Nesson. Her troop leader and senior advisor is Wendy Emerman. She has been a Girl Scout for 12 years.
Sheard, a Plainsboro resident, is a senior at High School North. Her project, “The Book Case: Solving the Teenage Reading Mystery,” found her surveying teenagers on their favorite books. The compiled list was distributed to local libraries and the Girl Scout Resource Center. She also completed the Junior Reading Badge with 54 Girl Scouts and donated 350 books to Somerset House and the Boys and Girls Club of Trenton.
She is the daughter of Lynn and Jeff Sheard. Her adult project advisor is Cindy Hernandez and her expert consultant is Donna Wyllie. She has been a Girl Scout for 13 years. Her plans for the future include studying adminstrative justice at George Mason University.
