Brooke Dearden of West Windsor attained the rank of Eagle Scout for his project at Plainsboro Preserve. He built a set of outdoor stairs connecting the information building to the series of hiking trails. A rising senior at High School South, he is a member of Troop 183 sponsored by the Church of the Latter Day Saints in Princeton. He is the son of Karey and Lori Dearden.
Michael Hasling, a member of West Windsor Troop 40, created a hiking trail through the woods at the Ron Rogers Arboretum for his Eagle Scout project. The trail is named the Water Oak Trail in keeping with the oak tree theme of the arboretum.
With fellow scouts and other volunteers, overhead branches were trimmed, and briars, underbrush, rocks, roots, and trash were removed. Deadfall logs, blazed with blue paint, were laid along the edges to mark the edges of trail.
The project, completed in March, 2005, was funded by Michael’s sale of home-baked cookies and hot chocolate at youth soccer games. More than 280 hours were spent planning, developing, and completing the trail.
Hasling is a rising senior at High School South.
