Fall Fest

Town Center School will devote October 28 to community service and autumn fun. The annual event involves the 725 students at the school.

Kindergartners and first graders will fill goodie bags with candy for distribute at Martin House Learning Center and Mill Hill, organizations that provide services to homeless families in Mercer County. Second and third grade students will prepare more than 200 meal bags with sandwiches, apples, and juice to donate to Rescue Mission in Trenton. Students will donate canned goods to Plainsboro Food Bank.##M:[more]##

Each class is designing their own unique pumpkin for the Town Center Pumpkin Patch display. A vote for the best pumpkin costs $1 and benefits the American Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina relief.

The supplies for the sandwiches are being donated by SuperFresh in Plainsboro. McCaffrey’s in West Windsor donated refreshments for the children. The school’s Parent Teacher Association has more than 80 parent volunteers to coordinate activities.

“It’s a special day that is lots of fun and teaches young children responsibility and helping others at the same time,” said Principal Marilyn Hynes.

Field Day

Hawk Elementary School’s recent field day event featured tug-of-war, parachute play, sack races, and a performance by the high school’s jazz band. With a New Orleans jazz theme, they raised funds for Hurricane Katrina relief.

Twins

Two sets of twins from West Windsor are enrolled at Chapin School of Princeton. Lauren and Rachel Libfraind are seventh grade students; Ben and Rachel Sacco are fourth graders. The school has an enrollment of 306 students including eight sets of twins.

In College

Dartmouth University: Laura Ann de Souza of Plainsboro is studying Asian and Middle Eastern Languages in Beijing this fall as part of the college’s foreign study program. She is the daughter of Osmund and Jacqueline de Souza. She is a student in the class of 2008.

Devlin Su, also a student at Dartmouth, is studying government in London this semester. A member of the class of 207, he is the son of Alan D. Su and Hsiu C. Su-Lin.

Award

Dean W. Stevens of Plainsboro received Syracuse University’s 2005 Lawrence Bernard Memorial Award for career achievements in the communications industry and contributions to the Syracuse University Alumni Representative Program. The award is in memory of Lawrence Bernard, a journalist from the Class of 1950, founder of Ascot Publishing Enterprise.

Stevens, a graduate of Newhouse School of Public Communications, Class of 1982, majored in production for electronic media. President of Vide-O-Go/That’s Infotainment! in Princeton, he has received six Viddie Awards and has twice been named Video Retailer of the Week.

His son Matt is a student at the Whitman School of Management, Class of 2007.
