Andrew’s younger brother Eric did his first gig last week — a shoot for a Nick Jr. animated television Series. He is the bird character and the show will air in the spring. A fourth grade student at Village elementary, he sings with the school choir. He also enjoys drawing and animation and sings with Sheket, the youth choir from the Jewish Center of Princeton.
Manish Anand of West Windsor has continued to write and release new songs — some of which are now available as I-tunes. His CD “DJ Oddme” was released close to three years ago. Two of his songs, “2050 Inida” and “Interzar,” were recently released in a compilation in the United Kingdom. Visit www.oddme.com for information.
Born in 1969, Anand discovered his musical tastes in the 1970s were Bee Gees, Led Zeppelin, Kiss, Boston, Kansas, and the Beatles. As a teenager he began playing electric guitar and discovered heavy metal music, Metallica, Van Halen, and Def Lepard.
In the early 1990s he became involved with the techno and alternative sounds and found himself in the DJ business. A student at Mercer College majoring in radio, he was given his own show featuring dance music on NJN radio, “Get On Your Feet.”
A year later, he became a traveling DJ and leaned toward Indian club songs. With the help of Polygon Studios, he soon produced his own songs “Baby I’m in Love with You,” Won’t You Be the Light of My Life,” and “Can U Feel.”
Soon after, he took the name Oddme and produced underground club tracks. His first title was “Journey to Bhangra,” a mix of club and Indian Bhangra beats.
He returned to India in 1998 to marry and brought his new wife back to American to show her how important music was to his life. Their daughter was born in 2000 and in 2001 he released his first CD “DJ Oddme.” Two tracks, “Mindscape” and “Strum” were featured in a 2003 film, “Pilgrimage,” by Josh Lowell Productions.
He continues to pursue ethnic beats and mixes. Anand will perform at Slow Down Cafe, 110 Mercer Street, Hightstown, on Friday, December 30, at 8 p.m.
