David William Reid, 86, died December 13 at his San Rafael, California, home. He was the lead member of the team that created Elsie the Cow, the symbol for the Borden Company’s line of dairy products. Elsie was a Jersey named “You’ll Do Lobelia.” After a traffic accident in 1941, she was buried at Walker-Gordon Farm in Plainsboro. Her grave remains on the property.

Gertrude B. Kleiner, 100, died January 6 at the Greenwood House in Ewing. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Esmond Drucker of West Windsor. Donations may be made to Greenwood House, 53 Walter Street, Ewing 08628.

Sam Dorfman, 87, of Manalapan, died at home on January 7. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Bruce Winkler of West Windsor, and his four grandchildren, Ellen, Michael, Michael, Melissa, and Howard.

Francis J. Kubala, 78, of Hamilton Township, died January 8 at Capital Health Systems at Helene Fuld in Trenton. Born in West Windsor, he was a lifetime area resident. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he retired from the Goodall Rubber Company in Trenton after 58 years.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years Margaret L. Kubala; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Rick Holden, and Linda and Tony Zangara, all of Hamilton Township; a sister, Mary Conover of Hamilton Township; three grandsons, Ricky and Kevin Holden and Mark Zangara; and a granddaughter, Tiffany Zangara and her fiance Remy Feniello.

Arthur Kimmel, 84, formerly of West Windsor, died on December 25, at the Finnish-American Nursing Home in Greenacres, Florida. He was founder and owner of PDQ Press in West Windsor.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Miriam; a sister, Shirley Reider of Charlotte, North Carolina; a daughter, Suzanne Goldenson of Princeton; sons, David of Montebello, New York, and Mark of West Windsor; and seven grandchildren.

Kimmel served in World War II in the Army Air Corps where he rose to the rank of Captain. Involved in both the B29 Project, he served as a courier for the Manhattan Project, and was honorably discharged in 1945.

Herman Friedman, 83, of Ewing, died January 9 at the Capital Health System at Mercer. Survivors include nephew and niece, Bruce and Pamela Lubitz, of West Windsor. Donations may be made to the Greenwood House, 53 Walter Street, Ewing Township.

Grace M. LoCurto Sullivan, 79, died January 12 at Compassionate Care Hospice at Saint Francis Medical Center, Trenton. A Lawrenceville resident since 1964, she retired from the American Cyanamid Company, West Windsor, in 1990, after 30 years as an executive secretary. Donations may be made to the Compassionate Care Hospice at Saint Francis Medical Center, 601 Hamilton Avenue, 6th Floor, Trenton 08629.

Aline M. Appert, 84, of Monroe Township, died January 12 in the Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge. Born in France, she was a former resident of West Windsor before moving to Rossmoor 14 years ago.

Cathryn “Kay” E. Hotte, 79, of Hudson, died January 12 at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Enid, Oklahoma. Survivors include a daughter, Cathy Tudda, of West Windsor.

Virginia “Ginny” E. Johnson, of Hamilton Township, died January 13 at her home. A machine operator, she worked for Bayer Aspirin in Trenton, and Carter-Wallace in Hightstown. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert W. and Donna Johnson of West Windsor.

Doris R. Bolger, 87, of Princeton died January 13 at Princeton Care Center. Survivors include a daughter, Lynn Slavin, of West Windsor. Contributions may be made to Animal Placement Agency of the Windsors (APAW), Box 162, West Windsor 08550.

Rosemary Portalatin, 41, of West Windsor died February 15 at her home. Born and raised in New York, she lived in West Windsor for many years.

Survivors include her husband, Julio Portalatin; her daughter, Alicia; her son, Julio; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Viola; five sisters; and a brother.

Michelle Nyce, 34, of Hopewell Township died on January 15. A former Sayre Drive, Plainsboro, resident, the family moved to Hopewell in 2000.

Nyce was found murdered in her sports utility vehicle in Jacob’s Creek, not far from her home. Her husband, Jonathan Nyce, has been charged with her murder.

Survivors also include their two sons, 12 and 10; their daughter, 5; and family members in the Philippines. No further information is available at this time.

Clara Gray Lidz, 74, of Princeton died January 14, at the University Medical Center of Princeton. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Christine Lidz of West Windsor.

John Edwin Watts, 73, of Waldo, Florida, died January 16 as a result of an automobile accident. Survivors include a daughter, Leslie Kasper of Plainsboro. Contributions may be made to the Tailhook Education Foundation, Box 26626, San Diego, California 92196.
