Get Ready for ‘Annie’

Those impossibly cute red ringlets are coming to High School North later this month with a production of “Annie,” Thursday, February 26, to Sunday, February 29. Thursday to Saturday, shows begin at 8 p.m. The Sunday performance is a 3 p.m. matinee. Tickets are $7 for Thursday and $10 for all other performances.

This perennially popular family musical based on Harold Gray’s “Little Orphan Annie” comic strip was created with music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, and book by Thomas Meehan. The show revolves around Annie, an 11-year-old girl living in an orphanage run by the evil Miss Hannigan. Holding fast to the dream that her parents will someday come to claim her, she accepts an invitation to billionaire Oliver Warbucks’ home for the holidays. And since there’s no surprise ending here, the irrestibly adorable Annie of course steals Warbucks’ heart, and he decides to adopt her.

Annie opened on Broadway at the Alvin Theater on April 21, 1977, ran for 2,”377 performances, making it the third longest-running musical of the 1970s. In 1982, the movie version was released starring Albert Finney, Aileen Quinn, Ann Reinking, and Carol Burnett.

For the first time, community members are invited to purchase tickets before the production begins. Tickets may be purchased by mail until February 12. Checks payable to West Windsor Plainsboro High School North Theater Company may be sent to Cherylanne Moffet, High School North, 90 Grovers Mill Road, Plainsboro 08536. Beginning Wednesday, February 18, tickets will be available at the school between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. For more information call 609-716-5100.
