Student Art Galore

Over 500 pieces of artwork by students grades one through twelve are featured in the 12th annual West Windsor-Plainsboro School District Youth Art Exhibit. A public reception for the artists contributing to the exhibit takes place on Friday, February 27, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Plainsboro Municipal Building.

Presentation of the annual youth arts awards begins at 7:30 p.m. Musical performances will be presented by the Community Middle School Jazz Band and the Chamber Orchestra.

The exhibit, organized by Community Middle School art teacher David Serughetti, runs through Wednesday, March 31. Art teachers from each school select the work to be displayed. Each school provides 25 to 40 pieces for the municipal building and four or five pieces for each library.

The municipal building features a variety of artwork in its permanent gallery to highlight the talents and diversity of community residents. The rotating exhibition is curated by the West Windsor-Plainsboro Art Department and provides an opportunity for the public to enjoy the talents of local young artists.

The exhibit is open to the public during regular business hours at the Municipal Building, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; at Plainsboro Public Library, Monday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday, 1 to 5:30 p.m.; and at West Windsor Library, Monday to Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 12:30 to 5 p.m.

The snow date for the reception is Friday, March 12. For information, call 609-716-5000.

One World Festival

When the annual Traditions program was snowed out in December, the township decided to create another day to share culture in the community. On Saturday, March 6, at 2 p.m., One World showcases a wide array of cultural music and folk dance performances, at the Plainsboro Municipal Complex. It is an afternoon of continuous performances, displays, and demonstrations of traditional folk arts. Admission is free. For information, call Plainsboro Recreation Department at 609-799-0909.

Participants include High School South Korean Club, Princeton Korean Dancers, Alborada Spanish Dancers, DeNoga School of Irish Dance, Plainsboro Chinese School, Griggstown Lockrapper Sword Team. Also Morris Folk dancers, the African rhythms percussion duo Lara and Yael, WW-P Korean Girls Modern Dance Team, Mike Wojik with Asian and African music, and interactive percussion from the Indian Ocean region. Audience participation is invited in some of the demonstrations.

During intermission, the audience will have an opportunity to view folk craft demonstrations as well as hundreds of works by WW-P students on display in the municipal building and the public library. The Plainsboro Historical Society and Human Relations Council will be featuring activities and exhibits at the Wicoff House.
