Images of Brazil
Jennifer Cabral of West Windsor is one of the featured artists at the Arts for Peace Gallery in New York City through Sunday, July 25. A freelance photographer, she took the exhibited photographs during her last trip to her native country, Brazil. She has lived in the United States since 2001.
“”These are not mere images of people and places I encountered along the way,”” she says. “”These are stories that were revealed to me by my own people. These realities could have been more easily ignored when I had them as part of my daily surroundings. Being away from Brazil allowed me to hear the stories more clearly.””
A graduate of Escola Guignard in Brazil in 2000, she received her bachelor’s degree in social communications from the Pontific Catholic University of Mineas Gerais in 1998. Part of solo and group exhibitions in Brazil, in 2002 she participated in the book and traveling project, “”Here is New York,”” which served as a testimony of the events surrounding September 11.
The show, held by PEACE, a non-profit organization that promotes cultural plurality through artistic manifestation and education, is at the Gallery at 38 West 88th Street (between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue). A percentage of sales will be donated to the Arts for Peace organization and its projects to promote artists and art education. Gallery hours are Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 212-787-7706 for information about the gallery. Visit www.jennifercabral.com for information about the photographer.
